Hi,

Can anyone help me translate, “...Pastaten, Wurst, Käse, entfächerte harte Eier und gefächerte Gurken.”?

I’ve highlighted the problematic words.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @ all,

ich versuch's mal:

entfächerte harte Eier = sliced eggs
Garnish food with slices of hard-boiled eggs.

Beispiele:

gefächerte Gurken:
gherkin fan
With a sharp knife cut them, lengthwise, into slices thin as paper, without detaching the slices at one end; then spread out the slices as a fan is spread.

Hey adman,

Based on the information folletto provided, it looks like "gefächerte Gurke" can also be

fanned pickle

Hi yakyuyama,

gherkin / pickle

an AE/BE difference?

1. Gherkins are a smaller kind of cucumber that have been pickled, while pickles are cucumbers that have been pickled in brine or vinegar.

2. Gherkins are pickles, whereas pickles are not gherkins, they may just be pickling cucumbers.

Any comment/suggestion?

Hey all,

My first impression upon reading the word "gherkin" was that that was BE, because I have never used or seen that word used in the U.S. Nevertheless, I suppose the word "gherkin" can be used in AE as well as BE, especially by those in the know.

In any case, besides gherkin fan and fanned pickle

you can also find

pickle fan (although you have to be careful not to confuse that with a fan of pickles) :o

and

fanned gherkin

out there, so I guess the best solution is to choose whatever works best for your audience.

Cheers,
Yama

Hi,

ok, so, sliced (hardboiled) eggs and fanned gherkins – I think I get the picture :)

Thanks for the help.
