Hallo PM2,

I think in German it would be something like ‘Schreiberling’.

‘Grub Street’ was a street in London where mostly not very good writers and journalists lived and worked in the 19th century. It then became a short-hand way of referring to such writers.

Similarly, the press in Britain is often referred to as ‘Fleet Street’.

Hope that helps,

P

Hello @ all,

Just to illustrate what Ponsomime was saying:

There is also the expression "a Grub street hack", "a literary hack"

Hi all,

I've just made a discovery  - there seems to be a second meaning: "Grub Street" is also a blog about the restaurant scene in various US cities: ("Grub" being one of the various slang terms for food), so both meanings would apply here - possibly a pun?
