I have to agree with Ponsomime here.
Cramming in the context you mentioned basically means trying to "shove" as much information as possible into your brain, usually in a short period of time (one or two days?).
Finals, at least in the U.S., are the (final) exams you take at the end of each semester (of high school and college, for the most part).
I guess the finals in the context you quoted refer to death, however.
