Hey axan,

It appears that you might be having a minor formatting problem with those parentheses. If you could please post the context again that would be rather helpful.

Thanks!

Cheers,

Hey all, I have no idea what the ss. stands for, but I found an example of it here: http://www.sammplat.wa.org/billofsale-sewer.pdf I imagine that should help someone figure this out... At least, I hope so!

Take it easy,

Hallo 89rules,

Your tip was really useful; according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scilicet)

“In legal usage, scilicet appears abbreviated as ss. or, in a caption, as §, where it provides a statement of venue and is read as "to wit". Scilicet can be read as "namely," "to wit," or "that is to say,"”

Also, Collins suggests ‘namely’ (http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/american/ss-?showCookiePolicy=true).

So, in German, something like ‘nämlich’.

Regards,

fredbär

Hey fredbär,

Based on the great information you provided, I looked around a bit and came up with some more information:

http://definitions.uslegal.com/j/jurat/

According to that website, it appears that ss. can also mean subscribed and sworn to.

I think we're finally getting to the bottom of this.

Cheers,
Yama
