The second is designed to pump the cooled water previously used for energy production back to its original depth ( injection well ).
The geothermal doublet therefore consists of the production well for water extraction and the injection well for return of the cooled water.

For the firm GEOVOL Unterföhring GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the municipality of Unterföhring, the general contractor Daldrup is drilling a hydrothermal doublet down to a depth (drilling hole length) of around 4,500 m (vertical depth of the borehole approximately 2,500 metres).
The work is anticipated to start in the autumn of 2013.
