Nach absolviertem theologischen Studium und nach einer 2-jährigen Zeit als Privatlehrer und ord. Inspektor der Montan Superintendent wurde er 1796 durch die Jareker Kirchengemeinde zu ihrem Seelsorger berufen.
Im Jahr 1842 trat er in den Ruhestand, nachdem er das Pfarramt 46 Jahre lang bekleidet hatte und es dann seinem Sohn gleichen Namens übergab.
