Von 1992-94 und 1995-96 arbeitete sie als studentische Hilfskraft bei den Monumenta Germaniae Historica in München.
Im Juli 2005 wurde sie am Europäischen Hochschulinstitut in Florenz/Italien mit einer Arbeit zur Rolle der Propaganda in Chamberlains Appeasement-Politik gegenüber den Dritten Reich 1938-1940 zur Dr. phil. promoviert.
Ihr Promotionsstudium (in Teilzeit während der Elternzeitphase 1999-2004) wurde 1996-1999, 2000 sowie 2003 mit Stipendien des Deutschen Historischen Instituts London, des DAAD und des Europäischen Hochschulinstituts gefördert.

In 2005 she earned a Ph.D. in history from the European University Institute in Florence/Italy with a thesis on Chamberlain’s appeasement policy and the British propaganda campaign directed at the German public 1938-1940.
Her doctoral research (carried out in part-time due to maternity leave during 1999-2004) was supported by the German Historical Institute London, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the European University Institute (1996-99, 2000, 2003).
