The innermost tracking detector of ATLAS will be a semiconductor pixel detector consisting of three barrel layers around the beam axis and three disks in each direction along the beam axis ( see image below ).
The smallest mechanical units of the pixel detector will be modules of about 16mm × 60mm.
The whole pixel detector will be built up of about 1750 modules.
