An dieser Übersetzung wird nach seiner Rückkehr nach Wittenberg im Frühjahr 1522 vor allem mit Melanchthon in vielen Stunden mühsamer Arbeit gefeilt.
Das Ergebnis dieser Arbeit liegt uns noch heute in der meistgelesensten deutschen Bibelübersetzung vor.
Sein Anteil an der theologischen Fixierung der reformatorischen Bewegung läßt sich also gewiß nicht nur an den " Loci communes " von 1521, der ersten reformatorischen Dogmatik und der Erarbeitung des Augsburgischen Bekenntnisses (1530) festmachen.
