Aufgrund seiner deutlich kleineren und leichteren Bauform ist das ROV PHOCA, das für Tauchtiefen bis zu 3000 m konzipiert wurde, von mittleren Forschungsschiffen einzusetzen und stellt somit ein hervorragende Ergänzung zum vorhandendenen ROV KIEL 6000 dar.
