Der in Mexiko geborene und jetzt in Istanbul lebende Fotograf ließ sich im Alter von 18 Jahren in den USA nieder.Er arbeitete oft an der US-amerikanisch-mexikanischen Grenze.
Nachdem er seine Karriere als Fotograf und Videoreporter für Zeitungen begonnen hatte, arbeitete er nach Angaben des Pulitzer-Komitees auch für das Fernsehen und Online-Medien.

Born in Mexico and currently based in Istanbul, Turkey, Manzano moved to the United States at the age of 18 and focused his work on cross-border issues between the country of his birth and the US, according to the Pulitzer citation.
Working first as a photographer and video journalist for newspapers, he later added television and digital media.
