Honorary citizen of his birthplace Eschlkam, appointed a “ Hofrat ”? ( court counsellor ) by the King, Maximilian Schmidt was known as one of the most famous and popular novelists in the 19th century.
He lived from 1832 to 1919 and had such huge success with his works about the Bavarian Forest and the Alpine region, that he was appointed a court counsellor by King Ludwig II.
