Ein aktueller Phagen-Schwerpunkt der DSMZ befasst sich mit Bakterien der Burkholderiales, die in Biofilmen der Lunge von Patienten mit COPD ( chronically obstructive pulmonary disease ) oder Mukoviszidose eine Rolle spielen.
Neben dem Ausbau einer Phagendiversität für möglichst viele bakterielle Phyla erweitert die DSMZ gezielt ihre Sammlung von Phagen gegen pathogene Bakterien.
