Die kuppelförmige Zeltkonstruktion entstand 1975 in Zusammenarbeit mit Thomas C. Howard bei Charter Industries, diente anschliessend als Autosalon in Detroit ( USA ) und wurde im Jahre 2000 auf einer Auktion erstanden und auf dem Vitra Campus aufgestellt.
Sie basiert auf dem 1954 durch Richard Buckminster Fuller patentierten Konstruktionsprinzip sogenannter „geodesic domes“, die aufgrund ihrer Dreiecksstruktur mit einem minimalen Einsatz von Material ein Höchstmass an Stabilität und Spannweite erreichen.
