Die chemische Formel von Quarz ist SiO2. Silizium ist ein Metall, sein Oxid ist ein Halbleiter der für moderne Elektronik verwendet wird, elektronische Schatkreise, LEDs und Sonnenkollektoren.
Quartz ist das bei weitem häufigste Mineral in der Erdkruste, es macht durchnittlich zwischen 58 % und 63 % ( Gewichtsprozent ) des Krustenmaterial aus.

www.hpwt.dePAR zeigt frühe Zellreaktionen bei DNS-Schäden an, γ-H2AX primär DNA Doppelstrangbrüche ( DSB ), 8-OH-dG eine häufige, prämutagene oxidative DNA-Basenmodifikation und OGG1 die Reparaturkapazität bezüglich oxidativer Schäden.
Bei Quarz DQ12 ergaben alle Biomarker statistisch signifikante positive Ergebnisse, die prägnanten gentoxischen Stress, das Entstehen von DSB und oxidativen DNS-Schäden mit korrespondierender Reparaturaktivität anzeigten.
Die gentoxische Antwort auf Partikelexposition war bei PRINTEX® 90 (Testruß) weniger deutlich ausgeprägt, aber es wurden dennoch signifikante Erhöhungen an DSB und 8-OH-dG positiven Kernen und OGG1-positivem Zytoplasma detektiert.
