Situated on Altstädter markt, the Deutsche Goldschmiedehaus is one of the most outstanding historical buildings in Hanau ’s old town.
With the establishment of the Hanau new town in 1597, Netherlanders and Walloons settled here, among them many goldsmiths, and, in 1610, they formed a »Guild of Gold and Silversmiths«.
Goldsmith art in Hanau blossomed in the second half of the 18th century.
