- The international cinema festival which takes place in May in Cannes, the high point of which is the selection from a number of nominations of the best film of the year. The winner is awarded the Palme d'Or. The ten-person jury, composed of film-makers, writers, artists, and actors, also awards prizes for best actor, best actress, best screenplay, best director, best short film, best debut, and the Grand Prix du Jury.
