www.gartenreich.comDiese Schale ist im südwestlichen Teil des Massivs erhalten, beginnend bei der Gipfelkuppel in Richtung Aiguille des Galciers und darüber hinaus, so wie auch als Basis auf der Seite Savoyens und des Wallis.
Es handelt sich hierbei um blättriges kristallines Gestein, im Wesentlichen bestehend aus Quarz und Feldspat, hie und da durch höhere Eisen- und Magnesiumkonzentrationen verdunkelt.
Im Karbon (vor 310 Millionen Jahren) überhitzte sich ein Teil dieses Materials und schmolz.

Wie der Gneis ist auch der Granit von dunkleren Klümpchen bedeckt und von hellen Fäden aus kleinen Feldspatkristallen durchzogen.
