El 95% de los norteamericanos lee la prensa local. En EEUU existe solo un periódico de caracter nacional, el USA Today, los demás son locales. Algunos periódicos de ciudades grandes, tales como el New York Times, Los Angeles Times y The Washington Post, se leen a través de todo el país. Además el International Herald Tribune, publicado fuera de EEUU, se lee por muchos norteamericanos en el extranjero.
